SYCAMORE – A Sycamore man is uninjured after accidentally driving his car into a flooded ditch, causing it to become engulfed in the water.

At around 5:50 p.m. Friday, Thomas Pattalio, 35, was driving northbound on Motel Road in Sycamore when he became distracted by something in his car, said DeKalb County Sheriff Deputy Dan Brauner. Brauner said the passengerside tires caught the water, and it fell into the ditch.

Pattalio climbed out of the sunroof of his 2003 Nissan Altima, and was sitting on the car when police arrived, Brauner said. Brauner estimated the water in the ditch to be at least four feet deep.

Brauner could not comment on the condition of the car, but added he would not drive it. Brauner advised drivers to be vigilant when they approach roads with standing water on or near them.
