Whitney Goodbred, daughter of Carol and Randy Goodbred, of Earlville, was awarded the Outstanding Major in Broadcast Communication Award during Honors Day at North Central College in Naperville.

A senior, Goodbred has a double major in broadcast communication and interactive media studies with a focus in convergent media at NCC. She is a graduate of Earlville Junior-Senior High School.

Goodbred has served for two years as station manager for WONC-FM 89.1, the college’s student-run, award-winning radio station that’s on air 24/7. She manages a staff of 65 students. Her name also has regularly appeared on the Dean’s List.

During her four years at North Central, Goodbred has earned top awards for her broadcasting. In state contests, she was part of two teams that won first place and second place for Best Radio Newscast at the Illinois Broadcasters Association’s 2012 student Silver Dome Awards. In the same IBA contest in 2011 and 2010, she and her team of broadcasters earned first place both years for Best Radio Newscast. In a national competition in 2012, she and her team claimed first place for Best Newscast from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System.
