Genoa Main Street 'Up' for an outdoor movie

Published: Monday, July 22, 2013 11:38 a.m. CDT

Genoa Main Street Inc. will fire up the popcorn popper Saturday evening for the first outdoor movie of the summer. "Up" will be shown at dusk in the municipal parking lot at the corner of Main and Genoa streets in downtown Genoa. Admission and popcorn are free.

“We are able to show this movie thanks to donations from Heartland Bank, Custom Aluminum Products and KishHealth System,” Linda Underwood, Genoa Main Street president, said in a news release. “The support of sponsors and the help of Main Street volunteers manning the projector, popcorn popper and concession stand have made Movies on Main Street a Genoa tradition for 16 years.”

Heartland employees will host a “box car" contest before the movie. Children of all ages are encouraged to make a car they can sit in from a cardboard box. The car can be decorated in any way. The cars can be made at home and brought to the movie, or boxes and art supplies will be available on site. Children wishing to make a car the night of the movie should arrive at least half an hour before dusk. Heartland is providing gift cards as prizes for the best cars.
